PSHE

PSHE and Values at Greenleas

PSHE encompasses all areas designed to promote children’s personal, social and health development. It gives children the knowledge, skills and understanding that they need to stay healthy and safe, develop worthwhile relationships, respect differences, develop independence and responsibility, make the most of their own abilities and those of others. It encompasses our work within British Values, Values Education and National Healthy Schools Status..

Our Principles for PSHE and Values

  1. Values underpin the ethos of the whole school community.

  2. Children take their learning from PSHE and Values teaching into the rest of their time at school and at home.

  3. Whole school and year group assemblies and circle times are fun and interactive.

  4. Learning is purposeful and gives the children a moral compass for their life beyond school.

  5. PSHE and Values teaching gives children the vocabulary to confidently express and discuss their feelings and behaviour.

  6. Teachers are knowledgeable and confident in teaching Values and PSHE.

  7. PSHE and Values inspires our children and helps them develop into happy, confident and responsible citizens.

Cross Curricular links

Links are made with PSHE and Citizenship in other curriculum areas as appropriate e.g. R.E., P.E., science, geography and in topic planning. Also in whole school events such as Walk to School Week, Road Safety Week and Healthy Schools Week.

We encourage children to travel to school with their parents or carers on foot by bike or scooter and have made provision on the school grounds for safe storage of these items. We actively promote this through initiatives such as Walk to School Week and The Big Pedal.

For those that absolutely need to drive we encourage lift sharing. The following link helps match sharers and lifts. www.centralbedsandluton.liftshare.com

Central Bedfordshire Council provide details and information about their Travel Choices Project on their website covering bus routes cycling information and initiatives to support residents travel by alternative means to the car, an Active Travel Map which can be viewed on their website by following the highlighted links.
