Welcome to Year 2 at Kestrel Way. Please find below key information related to our topics including learning logs and topic leaflets. Our specific class pages have photos and further information.
Our Year 2 learning journey begins with this half-term’s ‘Kenyan Safari’ topic. In Geography, we will be describing the location of Kenya, using maps, globes and atlases and comparing life in rural Kenya with life in Leighton Buzzard. What will be the same and what will be different? Paintings by the artist Edward Tingatinga will inspire us in our Art lessons as we will be creating African animal art work in a similar style. Watch out for lots of bold, bright colours and patterns! Finding out about the basic needs of animals, including humans for survival will be a focus in Science and in computing we will be learning how to take better photographs using a digital camera. Much of our English work will relate to stories set in Africa, such as ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and ‘Bringing the rain to Kapiti Plain’. We are also looking forward to a day of fun and dressing up for Safari Day. There are lots of exciting activities planned and who knows what Kenyan animals we might see through our binoculars?
