Equaliteach

As a lower school in a predominantly white area, Greenleas understands the importance of embedding equality into the curriculum through teaching which promotes diversity and inclusion, and tackles prejudice and discrimination.  This aim is threaded through our curriculum in the following ways:

Using resources from Equaliteach we have reviewed the content of our creative curriculum topics to avoid potential pitfalls such as perpetrating stereotypes or viewing history through a selective filter. This ensures there is a diverse array of positive representation from a range of cultures and ethnicities which forms the context of our topic learning.

Our Values Education programme is used as a springboard for debate and discussion through our value of the month, for example Tolerance, Respect and Co-operation.  The October 2020 value of Unity is linked to Black History Month through our weekly Values Assembly, in which we will explore Leaders, Legends and Legacies throughout Black History, as well as traditional stories and music as part of our weekly Story Time Assembly.

Year 4 will experience a "Show Racism the Red Card" assembly and workshop during the Autumn term, to refresh children's understanding of how their behaviour impacts others, particularly those from a minority cultural background.
