Allergies

If your child has a diagnosed allergy or is undergoing allergy testing/monitoring please ensure that the school has full details to ensure that we can support your child correctly.  You will be asked to complete an Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP) with your class teacher and the SENDCo.  The IHP document details the allergy and outlines the medical steps taken in the event of a reaction.  We are accustomed to supporting children who have auto-injectors.  If appropriate, and with your permission, we may share details of your child's allergies with parents in your child's class.

We work closely with our catering team in managing allergies.  Our lunch menus have the 14 most common allergens identified.  Where possible a close suitable alternative which is suitable for your child is provided.  Where a close alternative is not possible a compliant meal is offered. The Kitchen Team are available to discuss adaptations.

We acknowledge that it is impractical to enforce an allergen-free school.  However, we encourage parents, pupils and staff to avoid certain high risk foods to reduce the chances of someone experiencing a reaction.  These foods include:

1. Packaged nuts

2. Cereal, granola of chocolate bars including nuts

3. Peanut butter or chocolate spreads including nuts

4. Peanut-based sauces, such as satay

5. Sesame seeds

If a pupil brings these foods into school, they may be asked to eat away from others to minimise the risk.
