Health & Welfare
School Health Service
The School Health Team, based at the Bassett Road Clinic, carry out health checks at regular intervals and also by special request. The programme for routine screening, assessment and immunisation can be found in the School Health record booklet which is given to each five year old child.
Parents can ask to see the School Nurse for advice, reference to another agency or support at any time. She will visit families at home on request and can be contacted on 01582 707644. Health screening checks are carried out at 5 years.
The Audiometrician visits and tests hearing during the first term in school. The School Dentist inspects pupils' teeth.
Parents are requested to ensure the school is kept up to date with any medical information, which may affect a child at school.
Head Lice
Like most schools we have occasional outbreaks of head lice. The daily use of a fine-toothed comb on damp, well-conditioned hair is the best safeguard. Please check your child's hair on a regular basis. Parents will be asked collect a child and to treat the hair if head lice are noticed during the school day in order to minimise the spread.
Medication
Parents are requested to ask their doctor if medication can be administered 3 times in a 24 hour period, i.e. 07.30, 15.30, 22.30, thus avoiding school times. In exceptional circumstances a member of staff will administer medication, which has been prescribed for the child by a doctor. Other medication will not be given. Parents should bring medication to the school office, clearly labelled with child's name and instructions. An indemnity form must be signed. Asthma inhalers are kept in classrooms.
Child Protection
Parents will appreciate that the Headteacher's prime duty of care is to the child. She will notify the appropriate authorities immediately of any concerns regarding a pupil or family. All school staff are trained in Child Protection procedures.
A Few Safety Rules:
Seatbelts - The school will endeavour to use coaches fitted with seat belts and will encourage the children to wear them.
Dogs - Dogs and puppies, with the exception of guide dogs are not permitted in school grounds.
