Eagles' Class Page
Welcome to Eagles Class at Greenleas Derwent Road. Both myself, Mrs Turner (Class Teacher), and Mrs Booth (Class Teaching Assistant) are pleased to welcome you to our class page. Please come and talk to us to discuss you children's celebrations, achievements and we are happy to answer any questions that you may have. Please find below a photo learning journey that shows some of the exciting activities that we have been getting up to.
Science Week - The Great Greenleas Mystery
This week a terrible crime was committed at Greenleas and Eagles have used forensic science skills to find out the culprit. The children have studied finger prints and lip prints, tested liquids and powders that were found at the scene, and even analysed ink that was left in a ransom note. We have a suspect, but can we track them down and get them into custody?
This week, the children have been weighing out weekly rations for children during WWII. We were astounded to see how little food they were allowed.
Google Internet Legends
We had a visit from Google this week, who came to teach us all about staying safe online.
Eagles received a visit this week to hear all about a Grandad of a child in the class who was in the navy in WWII. We got to see some very interesting photographs, a newspaper from the ship he was on, some signalling flags as well as his naval hat.
DT - Making Anglo-Saxon Food
The children have been learning how Anglo-Saxons were the very first farmers. Everything they ate, they would either grow themselves, farm or catch. Firstly the children designed an authentic dish. We then all prepared and cooked baked apples with honey and summer berries. The children really enjoyed sampling the food, which tasted "just like apple crumble".
Learning Logs - Autumn 1
All the children did a brilliant job with their first Learning Log challenge of Year 4. On Wednesday, they shared their successes and thoroughly enjoyed seeing how their classmates had tackled the challenge. Well done Eagles!
Roman Wow Day - Wednesday 17th October 2018
We all thoroughly enjoyed the Roman Wow Day this week. Children made an intricate tiled mosaic, sewed a Roman bulla as well as enjoying the chance to dress up. There was even an opportunity to sample some Roman honey and cinnamon biscuits. Here we are looking our best, and being Roman warriors!
Modelling the Digestive System
This week in Science the children have been looking closely at the parts of the digestive system. They then built their own out of playdough.
What impact do different foods and drinks have on our teeth? THE RESULTS!
Last week the children conducted a science experiment to discover the impact of sour sweets, vinegar, cola and fruit juice on our teeth. The results are in! These were the eggs when they came out of the different liquids! Yuk!. We can clearly see that the only liquids that don't have an impact on our teeth are water and milk.
On Monday we enjoyed a visit from Hazard Alley Safety Centre who talked to us about how to keep safe when we are online. We discussed how to use social media safely and considered how to create our own user names and passwords so that we are unidentifiable.
